343 Smoked
A new 343 for 2023...
In 1962, the table lamp from Le Klint, called Model 343, was designed by Gunnar Billmann-Petersen. The lamp was specially developed for Le Klints classic hand folded lampshades, and today Model 343 in transparent glass is still in production at Le Klint. For many years, the table lamp had a characteristic green colour, but Model 343 has also previously been available in various other colours. To celebrate the 60th anniversary of Model 343, Le Klint is now launching the table lamp in the color Smoke.
Architect and graphic designer with a sense of colours
Most lamps from Le Klint have white shades combined with frames in wood, brass, or steel, but Model 343 has a base made of mouth-blown glass.
The architect behind Model 343, Gunnar Biilmann Petersen, is one of the most important figures in the history of Danish design.
He was educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts’ School of Decorative Art and worked as an architect. However, his most prominent contribution to the world of art was in the field of graphic arts. His work was eclectic, ranging from graphics, posters, bank notes and company logos to the layout of Jens Olsen’s World Clock in Copenhagen City Hall. Parallel with working in his design studio, Biilmann Petersen was involved in teaching and research, and in 1951 he was appointed the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts’ first Professor of Design.
Hand-folded shades
Model 343 fits Le Klints hand folded shades called Le Klint shades 1-21,1-23, 2-21 and 2-23. These shades were designed by Tage Klint in 1943 and they are cornerstones of Le Klints history. The lineage from the original folded shades from 1901 is unmistakable, and it has been an important element in the product range since the company’s foundation in 1943. The folded shades are available in both paper and standard foil.
Model 343 Smoke is available at selected dealers and in the Le Klint Brand Stores as well as on Le Klints web shop.
