Architect Poul Christiansen started his collaboration with Le Klint in the late 1960s and over the years, he has been one of the most productive designers for Le Klint. He has created many lamp designs for the company, including Model 172 Sinus, which has become an international classic.
When Poul Christiansen designed Model 36 in 1976, the idea was that the same type of folding could be used to produce three different products – a ceiling/wall lamp, a pendant lamp and a lampshade for a table lamp.
The wide edge helped to create a folded, pleated lamp, which did not look like other well-known contemporary lampshades. At the same time, the lampshade could be moved on the frame, creating different looks. Model 36 can be used as a ceiling lamp and wall lamp and is supplied in two sizes with a diameter of 55 cm and 65 cm, respectively. The lampshades continue to be made by hand; hand folded by Le Klints pleating technicians at the company’s in-house production facilities in Odense, Denmark.

Between 1969 and 1987 Poul Christiansen brought innovative and exciting dimensions to Le Klints lampshades. Prior to his involvement the shades had been folded in pleats and in straight lines across the pleats. Poul Christiansen discovered that folding in mathematical curves gave the lampshades beautiful and unique sculptural shapes. His most famous creation is the SinusLine series which he developed by combining sine curves in such a way that they formed a lampshade when folded.Read more
